The carrier fabric of the sterile first-aid dressing consists of a transparent, elastic film made of polyurethane, and is provided with a hypoallergenic polyacrylate adhesive. The wound contact layer, which does not adhere to the wound, is overlapped on all sides by the film. The film protects the wound from the penetration of pathogenic germs. It is waterproof, however steam permeable. The patient is therefore able to manage his daily body care without soaking the dressing. The transparent film allows an assessment of the moisture status of the wound contact layer without removing the dressing. These so-called “island” dressings are individually packed in sterile packaging. One folding box contains 50 island dressings.
