The unsterile, pre-washed laparotomy sponge is made of dressing gauze complying with standard EN 14079 type 20. It consists of several layers of gauze, which have been sewn up, and is provided with an X-ray chip. If equipped with a loop, the loop has a length of 30 cm. In operative areas the laparotomy sponge is used to absorb blood and secretion or to protect soft tissue or organ tissue. Disposable laparotomy sponges must be sterilized before use. 20 lap sponges are packed in a pouch.
